What a delight!
This is the best version of a Rom-Com, up there with “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” in terms of total quality and enjoyment. It doesn’t have as much of the serious stuff as WWWSK so it was even lighter that that which is perfect if you’re looking for something funny, fun, sweet, and romantic.
The premise is an actress has a drug scandal (she’s innocent, but there ain’t no jury like public opinion) and hasn’t had work in two years. To convince a writer to work with her she agrees to work at a law firm for 3 months so she can bring real life experience to her role. Naturally she’s paired with a very serious and socially distant lawyer who has no idea who she is.
Both Jeong Rok and Yoon Seo are ridiculously sweet and pure human beings, both with a kind of quiet strength and resilient attitude. Their romance is unbearably sweet, like your teeth with rot sweet, but in the best way. Just two very pure and wholesome humans falling in like and into love with each other.
There was a brief bump in the middle where Yoon Seo’s stalker returned, but that was tied up and taken care of really quickly which I appreciated. It was certainly fun to follow the cases in the early episodes, but the show was strongest when the main couple were together, or when the wonderful people at the law firm were interacting with each other.
Generally what an excellent ensemble cast. So much fun, so cute, such great relationships all around.
I’m a big fan of the chemistry between Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na in this– I did love them in Goblin but I didn’t get why people were calling for them to be in a show together until I saw this. Just perfection.
Yes, this show is filled with tropes and cliches. It’s very predictable, not a whole lot of narrative substance. But gosh wow it’s cute, and it’s fun, and it’s wholesome. My heart feels so light and full after watching it. I can’t count the number of times I smiled and laughed.
If you want to feel good, and see pretty much the cutest romance around, don’t skip this one. It’s worth a watch.
High Points: The chemistry of the leads, the overall cuteness of the show, the amazing ensemble cast at the law firm.
Low Points: It’s tropey and cliche, but in the best way, so that’s not even really a low point!
