Overall Rating: A+ for pure entertainment value
Subtitles: The subtitles were strong (this was a co-production with Netflix) and since it was a variety show it also featured my favorite Korean TV element which was the “explanation” subtitles that are essentially like an audience member narrating things and reacting to things in real time. It’s beautiful.
Brief Synopsis: Seven Korean celebrities work together to solve mysteries each episode. These mysteries involve elaborate scavenger hunts, escape rooms, and a variety of tasks needed to gain information necessary to find the culprit. Watch it on Netflix here.

This review is going to be structured differently than my normal ones because this was not a K Drama and my typical categories don’t really work for it. Brace yourselves, I’m improvising.
Busted brings Kim Se Jeong, Ahn Jae Wook, Kim Jong Min, Sehun, Park Min Young, Lee Kwang Soo, and Yoo Jae Suk (with memorable appearances from Yoo Yeon Seok) together for one of the silliest and most entertaining shows you will ever have the pleasure of watching. Disclaimer: If you are thinking you want a really intense murder mystery show where people solve elaborate puzzles and the stakes are high and you’re on the edge of your seat, this will not be your jam. Yes, there are elaborate puzzles. Yes, the stakes are often high (though it’s hard to argue that it ever feels like the stakes are high as you watch). But this show is not in any way a serious show and if you are the kind of person who gets annoyed when the people on screen solving puzzles are not actual geniuses figuring things out that blow your mind this show is not for you.
HOWEVER, if you enjoy fun, you like laughter, you think silliness is joyful, AND you have enjoyed murder mystery parties with your friends and perhaps even participated in an escape room, oh boy are you in for a freaking treat.
I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I say watching this show made me laugh so hard I cried, that often I was laughing so much watching this that my dog was extremely concerned about my well-being, and that there was that one time I may have slightly peed my pants I was cracking up so much. This extremely ragtag group of detectives get themselves into so many absurd situations and handle it all so hilariously that it is a real trip. I cannot say whether or not it was intended to be funny when they first set out to make this show happen, but thankfully they figured out pretty quick that they were ridiculous people who made all situations far more ridiculous than they needed to be and they gelled well as a cast and really embraced the comedy of it all.
The tasks were fun, the games were interesting, and the mysteries, while not overly complex, were also just elaborate enough that it stayed fun. Half of the fun was that, as the audience, you only know what the cast knows, so when they were doing a poor job of figuring stuff out you got to be in the dark as well (except on that Trojan horse thing that I still am not over–Kwang Soo and Sehun y’all are the most lovable idiots I have ever seen in my entire life).
My favorite thing about this show was the way it built on itself and adapted to itself–every episode you could see how the cast and the writers and producers were learning as they went and adapting to the environment accordingly. The cast started to figure out their strengths and get generally better at solving each task and the tasks and scavenger hunts themselves started to build off jokes and mishaps and successes from earlier episodes. All around it was just a delight, and I loved every minute of it.
Unless you hate it when people goof off and you also hate fun, this is a show you need to watch. Honestly it’s worth it just to see Sehun in the background absolutely losing it laughing at his fellow cast members (ESPECIALLY KWANG SOO) when silly stuff goes down. Shoutout also to Min Young, the forever MVP, who carried the whole team on her back and looked like a queen every moment while doing it.
So fun, such a joy to watch, I cannot wait for Season 2!
